Swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni was today named the captain of the 15-member squad for the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup to be held in South Africa from September 11 to 24.

Mumbai, Aug 7 : Swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni was today named the captain of the 15-member squad for the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup to be held in South Africa from September 11 to 24.

Yuvraj Singh will be the vice captain of the team, which includes off-spinner Harabhajan Singh and Delhi batsman Virender Sehwag.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah announced the team here after a teleconference between Chief National Selector Dilip Vengsarkar, who is currently in England with the Indian team, and the other four national selectors back home.

The only new face is Baroda all-rounder Yusuf Pathan, who is the elder brother of Irfan Pathan.

Yusuf's big hitting ability and his off-breaks helped him get an international call. Besides, Irfan, Rohit Sharma and Haryana all-rounder Joginder Sharma have been included in the squad.

The team for the seven-match one-day series in England was also announced. Fast bowler Munaf Patel has been recalled for the ODI series after missing the Test series on fitness grounds. S. Sreesanth has been left out.
