PCB chief warns Pak players to stay away from ICL

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has warned its top players to stay away from the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) or face the axe.

Karachi, Aug 3 : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has warned its top players to stay away from the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) or face the axe.

Nasim Ashraf, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, told reporters at the National Stadium here, that there would be no room for any Pakistani player who decides to sign up with ICL.

Reacting to unconfirmed reports that ICL organisers have approached several top Pakistani players for the league, Ashraf said any player going there would not be playing for Pakistan.

Commenting on the ICL, Ashraf said he was confident that no cricket board would support the rebel series.

"Until the ICC approves it, I'm sure nobody will back the ICL. How could we support the ICL when we have to manage our own teams with the available resources? Hypothetically speaking, if the ICC does approve the ICL, we may review our policy," he added.

The ICL has reportedly approached leading Pakistan players such as skipper Shoaib Malik, Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan to play in the league scheduled to be launched in October/November, the sources said.

So far, the ICL has roped in West Indian legend Brian Lara and Australia's Shane Warne, while former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has also confirmed receiving an offer.

In April, Zee TV announced the creation of a parallel cricket league at the domestic level, a move that was perceived as a direct threat to existing cricket infrastructure in India.

Zee TV announced that the league will be floated with a corpus of 100 crore rupees, and will offer top prize money of one million dollars, the Dawn reported.

The league will comprise six teams of 14 players each. Each team will contain four international players and two players who are playing or have played cricket for India. The other eight players will be drawn from budding cricketers across the country.
