PCB did not handle Razzaqs case properly: Ramiz

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not handle the case of all-rounder Abdul Razzaq properly, forcing the player to bid adieu to international cricket.

Lahore, Aug 21 : Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not handle the case of all-rounder Abdul Razzaq properly, forcing the player to bid adieu to international cricket.

"I think Razzaq's case was not handled in a proper way. The player should have been told that why he was dropped from the Twenty20 squad (for World Championship)," Ramiz said.

The cricketer-turned-commentator said that "rude selection" of the team compelled Razzaq to call it a day, adding that mistakes were committed from both sides.

Another former skipper Intikhab Alam said Razzaq's decision of retirement was his personal choice, as every cricketer had a right to earn good money.

"Razzaq may have felt that the ICL (Indian Cricket League) is a good opportunity. And, the PCB has no right to stop someone from earning a good livelihood," the Daily Times quoted Alam, as saying.

He went on to say that insecurity force players to take such steps, adding that a cricketer had the right to take care of himself whenever he was dropped from the squad without any 'reason'.

"A sportsman has 8 to 12 years of energy for playing high quality cricket. And, if he opts for any county or a league like this, he has every right to do so," Alam added.

Former batsman Javed Miandad also said that Razzaq's move to join the ICL was his own decision, which he must have taken after a serious thought.

"I don't want to comment on Razzaq's decision, because I had also signed for Kerry Packer's World Series in 1970s. And, it would be unfair to stop someone from earning good money," Miandad said.

"Razzaq is one of those players who have the capacity to turn tables on the opponents with his powerful swashbuckling hits. He must have made this move for the sake of playing more cricket," added the former captain.
