CPI, at the Assembly, asked the Government to either withdraw its plan to charge more money from farmers who use lift irrigation or to reduce the power tarrif imposed on them. They came t the speaker podium and displayed playcards. Deputy Speaker who was in chair suspended the members for their behavior and called for Marshalls to take them away. Congress Members, including CLP Leader Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy asked the Marshalls to leave the members and asked the Dy. Speaker to lift the suspension for which he agreed. CPI members later staged a walk out from the Assembly.
Power Minister Sri Kottapalli Subba Raidu said that that it is up to the regulatory commission to determine the prices of the power in the state and that the members need not think that it was an act of the State Government or the TDP Party.
Minister Sri Pocharam Srinuvasa Rao said that the Government has identified 7900 villages as having Blackish and Fluoride content water by March 2002 and that Rs. 4000 Crores will be spent for providing clean water in those village in the next few years.
Hyderabad Police arrested Mr. Kailash Amarnath who took loans from various nationalized banks by placing fake documents. Police Investigation reveled that an SBH Field officer was involved in the issue and held Mr. Kaliash to claim the loans.
APCC President Sri M Satyanaryana Rao and other Congress Members staged a Rastha Rokho at Karimnagar - Nizamabad Road demanding continuous power supply to the farmer and to decrease the hiked power rates.
Union Minister Mr. M Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for 'Rajbhasha Swarna Jayanthu Bhwawan' at the DRM Office Premises. This is the first building in the country of the Official Language Implementation Committee.
BJP Member Mr. K Lakshman requested the state Government to withdraw its hike in power rates in the interest of farmer of the state. He spoke at a press conference held at Vijayawada.
Polytechnic Lecturers Association said that they will continue their strike asking the Government to pay salaries according to the revised scale and that they will boycott EAMCET, CEEP and other examinations.
Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu greeted the people on the festival of Colors - the Holi. He felt that the festival symbolizes unity and harmony.
