DENSO to Exhibit at the 15th World Congress on ITS

KARIYA, Japan, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- DENSO Corporation will exhibit its intelligent transportation system (ITS) products in the areas of environment, safety and comfort and convenience at the 15th World Congress on ITS, Nov. 17 - 20, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. The company also will provide wireless communication devices for technology demonstrations of both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside communications. The demonstrations will take place on a five-block section of 11th Avenue, outside the convention center, Monday, Nov. 17 -Thursday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

"DENSO's aim is to develop ITS systems that reduce a vehicle's environmental impact, while also linking people, vehicles and society for increased traffic safety and comfort and convenience," said Doug Patton, senior vice president of Engineering at Denso International America.

In the area of environment DENSO will display concept technologies such as the green driving advisory technology, which gives drivers fuel-efficient driving tips, as well as the taxi probe traffic information system, which will collect data from taxis and other commercial vehicles to provide real-time traffic information to vehicles equipped with the device.

In the area of safety, DENSO will showcase two future technologies -- gaze detection and adaptive front-lighting system (AFS) on a cockpit simulator. The company's gaze detection technology monitors the driver's gaze and will alert the driver if it detects inattentiveness. DENSO's AFS technology uses information from the navigation system to predict curves in the road and will redirect the vehicle's headlamps to illuminate the changes in the road ahead. The company also will exhibit a new thin film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster featuring an integrated night view system that aims to improve a driver's nighttime visibility and help detect pedestrians or other potential obstacles in the road.

In the area of comfort and convenience, DENSO will exhibit its remote security system, which can prohibit a vehicle's engine from restarting if it is stolen. The company also will outline its worldwide navigation business, which includes car navigation systems developed for the North American market.

DENSO will also exhibit the wireless communication devices that will be used in the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside demonstrations taking place during the World Congress on ITS. In an effort to realize vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside communications, DENSO develops in-vehicle wireless communication devices and participates in projects in Japan, Europe and the U.S. to standardize communication technologies.
