MetLife Appoints Deanne Stewart as Its Australia Chief

MetLife announced today that Ms. Deanne Stewart will join MetLife in Australia to become its Chief Executive Officer starting in mid-July. Ms. Stewart will also be joining the Asia Leadership team of MetLife and will directly report to Dr. Nirmala Menon, Senior Vice President & Head of Designated Markets and Health, Asia.
In this role, Ms. Stewart will be responsible for executing the corporate strategy to spearhead the next phase of growth for MetLife’s business in Australia and accelerate shareholder returns while ensuring the operational effectiveness of the business.
Ms. Stewart has over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector and has a proven track record of building and executing successful business strategies. She comes to MetLife from BT Financial Group (BT), which she joined in 2007, and over the years she has risen through the ranks culminating in her most recent position with them as their General Manager, Super, Marketing and Direct based in Sydney. In this role she led a team of approximately 700 professionals that covered BT’s Superannuation business, marketing and digital teams, online trading and direct channels such as contact centres, bank distribution, and scalable advice. Before that Ms. Stewart served as their General Manager, Customer Experience and Marketing, where she oversaw BT’s entire Customer Experience and Marketing operations with a team of 1,200 receiving the “Best of the Best” award for “Outstanding Excellence in Customer Service” in the CSIA Australian Service Excellence Awards.
Prior to BT, Deanne served as Managing Director, Head of International Private Client Businesses for Merrill Lynch Investment Management Inc. where she managed a global team located in USA, Asia, Latin America and Europe with responsibilities that included sales, marketing and product strategy. She has Bachelor of Commerce, Finance & Marketing from University of NSW, Australia, and a MBA from Yale University in the United States.
