US pursuing Pak to abandon gas purchases from Iran

January 26, 2012 - Washington

The United States has confirmed that it has stepped up efforts to pursue Pakistan to abandon gas purchases from Iran.

US State Department's spokesperson Victoria Nuland said that the US is talking to countries around the world to reduce the global dependence on Iran.

She added that she did not have anything specific to indicate where those conversations were leading, The News reports.

According to the British website, USAID officials have attended a meeting to indicate to Pakistan's petroleum ministry that Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) could be made available by the United States at 4.5 dollar per mmbtu.
