  • Syrian government rejects the holiday cease-fire proposal called by the international envoy Lakhdar Brahimi saying the rebels has no unified leadership to sign it. The envoy has asked Iran to broker a truce between the Syrian government and rebels during the Eid al-Adha later this month.
  • Five people have been killed and 15 others were wounded in bomb attacks across Baghdad. A roadside bomb hit a police patrol early Wednesday. Two policemen were killed in the attack.
  • More than 2,000 people mourned the 10-year-old girl Jessica Ridgeway who was abducted on her way to school in a Denver suburb and killed. Her public memorial was held Tuesday night. Meanwhile, police authorities have asked the people to provide them with leads to catch the killer.
  • Three persons died and three others were wounded in an apartment shooting in Ohio. A 3-year-old child is among the deceased. According to the police, a man shot five people in northwest Ohio in two apartments on Tuesday night and opened fire on officers after coming out of the building. Two officers returned fire and killed him.
  • An agent for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) died in a suicide bombing at an Afghan intelligence office. The attack occurred at the Kandahar province on Saturday. Four intelligence officials and two U.S. intelligence officers were killed.
