Obama pays tribute to disco queen Donna Summer

May 18, 2012 - Washington

Barack Obama marked the passing away of singer Donna Summer in a statement.

The disco queen died after a long battle with lung cancer in Florida on Thursday.

"Michelle and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Donna Summer. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Donna truly was the 'Queen of Disco'," the Politico quoted him as saying.

"Her voice was unforgettable, and the music industry has lost a legend far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donna's family and her dedicated fans," Obama said.

The singer was best known for hits like 'Bad Girls' and 'Hot Stuff' and gained prominence during the disco era of the 1970s.
