French Police raids houses and offices of former President Nicolas Sarkozy

The French Police have raided the offices and residences of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy as part of an ongoing investigation over alleged cash payments by L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt. A judge in Bordeaux is investigating whether the former French President have received any cash gifts from Bettencourt, 89, during Sarkozy's successful 2007 election campaigning. Nicolas Sarkozy is alleged to have received over 800,000 Euros in illegal funding.

The police raided the mansion of Carla Bruni, the former First Lady in a gated community in west of Paris. The Sarkozy couple were away on a Quebec chalet holiday when the raids happened. The immunity protection of Nicolas Sarkozy ended June 16, which earlier protected him from legal action.

Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni are believed to have taken refugee in the home of Canadian Billionaire Paul Desmarais.
