Argentina President Cristina Kirchner 'never had cancer' post op tests reveal

January 8, 2012 - Buenos Aires

Argentina's President Cristina Kirchner is not suffering from cancer as initially believed, her spokesman has said.

Spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro said that tests on Fernandez's removed thyroid gland found the initial diagnosis was wrong and the nodules weren't cancerous, Fox News reports.

Scoccimarro said that Fernandez, 58, doesn't even have to swallow the radioactive iodine that patients usually take after thyroid cancer surgery.

According to the report, Fernandez is now out of the hospital and is recovering at the presidential residence in suburban Buenos Aires.

Without her thyroid gland, Fernandez faces a lifetime of hormone replacement therapy.
