Vladimir Putin 'a wife beater and philanderer', claims spy

November 3, 2011 - London

Vladimir Putin has been alleged of abusing his wife and having numerous sexual affairs when he was a high-ranking KGB officer in Dresden, according to secret German service documents.

The documents from the archive of the Germany's spy agency BND, paint a dark picture of the Russian prime minister, who plans to run for the presidency again next year.

According to an agent who was posing as Putin's wife Ludmilla Putina's interpreter, the then youthful 33-year-old spy chief was a wife beater and a philanderer during his stint in the Dresden from 1985 to 1990, The Telegraph reported.

The spokesman for the Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Peskov, dismissed the allegations in the documents, saying that the "stories were complete nonsense."
