Upstate police chief admits to sexting on duty

June 11, 2011 - Albany (New York)

Saratoga Springs Police Chief Christopher Cole has admitted that he committed an "error in judgment" on Thursday for sending sexually explicit text messages and photos to a girlfriend while in his City Hall office.

The New York Post quoted Cole as issuing a statement confirming he had carried on an "intermittent personal relationship with a 39-year-old unmarried woman named Laurie Masi."

Unlike Weiner, Cole was separated from his wife at the time.

"The relationship I had with Ms. Masi was between two consenting adults and sometimes involved conversation and texting of a sexual nature and on a few occasions involved each of us texting sexually explicit photos to each other," Cole said.

Cole called Public Safety Commissioner Richard Wirth to explain the situation before sending out the release.

Wirth told The Saratogian that the case was "under review."
