Two US law experts meet Davis, discuss legal issues in double murder case

March 6, 2011 - Lahore

The US government has reportedly assigned two American legal experts to defend double murder-accused CIA contractor Raymond Davis, who is being tried in an additional district and sessions court in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail.

Sources said the legal experts had reached Pakistan a few days ago and met Davis in jail on Saturday.

"Two persons namely Bruce Sward and Hollis Hollis had arrived in Pakistan a few days back so as to discuss the case with Raymond Davis and the US officials concerned in Pakistan," The Dawn quoted Alberto Rodriguez, spokesperson for the US Embassy in Islamabad, as telling on the phone.

He said that the US experts, who would be returning home on Sunday, met Davis and discussed the legal issues pertaining to his case.

"Bruce and Hollis are the officials of the US Department of Justice and they had arrived in Pakistan just to meet Davis and the US authorities concerned here in Pakistan," Rodriguez added.

According to sources, the duo will also hold a meeting with the families of the victims- Faizan and Faheem Shamshad - whom Davis had shot dead in Lahore on January 27, allegedly in self-defence.

When asked whether the experts would meet the heirs of the deceased prior to their return to the US, in a bid to settle the matter by paying blood money, Rodriguez said he had no information in this regard.

Meanwhile, Faheem's brother Waseem Shamshad said that he had heard about the arrival of some US officials or legal advisers in Pakistan.

"Although we have heard that they will meet us, no one has contacted us so far," he added.

He said his family and the family of other deceased Faizan would never forgive the accused.

"We just want Davis to be punished under the law because we will never forgive him at any cost," Waseem added.
