Palin praised Obama weeks before being chosen as McCain's running mate

June 11, 2011 - Washington

In one the emails written to her staffers in 2008, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin had praised an energy speech by then presidential candidate Barack Obama over three weeks before being picked as the Republican Party's vice presidential candidate.

Her comments made on August 4, 2008, were part of a series of over 24,000 newly released emails from Palin's time as Governor, Politico reports.

"He gave a great speech this morn in Michigan - mentioned Alaska," she wrote to a group of aides that included energy adviser Joe Balash.

"Stole out Energy Rebate 1000 dollars check idea, stole our TC-Alaska gasline talking points, etc. So.... we need to take advantage of this a write a statement saying he's right on. (Glad he's flip-flopping on OCS, too.) Joe - could you help crank this quick statement out as our 'reaction' to some of Obama's good points this morning?" she added.

Among the also included her concerns about the climate change, especially to address the media on such issues.

"Climate change is a top issue of course," she wrote Sept. 15 to Lawrence Hartig and Denby Lloyd. "Just head's up. Also, predator control's been quiet, but let me know if the issue's volume gets turned up and I need to respond to anything," Palin wrote on September 15 to Lawrence Hartig and Denby Lloyd.
