Palin not a 'serious' GOP candidate for 2012 election: Bachmann strategist

June 8, 2011 - Washington

US House of Representatives member Michele Bachmann's new political consultant, Ed Rollins, has criticized former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for failing to be a "serious" Republican candidate for the 2012 US presidential election.

"Sarah has not been serious over the last couple of years. She got the Vice Presidential thing handed to her, she didn't go to work in the sense of trying to gain more substance, she gave up her governorship," Politico quoted Rollins, as saying.

Rollins' comments come after Bachmann's earlier remarks that she views Palin as a "friend", not competition.

He also said that Bachmann, unlike her Tea Party rival, has worked hard in the past.

"Bachmann has been a leader of the Tea Party, which is a very important element here," he said.

"She is probably the [GOP's] best communicator now that [former Arkansas Governor] Mike Huckabee's not in there," he added.
