Oz PM approval rating hits record- low in latest poll

September 6, 2011 - Canberra

A new poll has shown that Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard's approval rating has sunk to a record low with two out of three Australian voters expressing unhappiness over her performance.

Gillard, who secured only 34 percent support as Prime Minster is being blamed for Labor Party's recent failures.

The poll also showed about 68 Australian voters are dissatisfied with Gillard's performance as Prime Minister and only 23 percent approved her.

The poll comes in the wake of Australia abandoning a plan to "swap" hundreds of asylum seekers with Malaysia.

The 'Malaysian Solution' project was left in disarray after the Australian High Court declared the deal illegal and thus ruled in favour of refugee advocates, Telegraph, reports.

The poll showed rise in support to 43 percent for Opposition leader Tony Abbott as Prime Minister.
