Murdered Indian-origin bride Anni's mother hospitalised as trial continues

May 6, 2011 - London

The mother of Anni Dewani, who was murdered in Cape Town during her honeymoon last year, collapsed after horrifying details of her daughter's killing were outlined in court.

Fifty-nine-year-old Nilam Hindocha was rushed to hospital after she fell ill, suffering from shock and stress, The Daily Express reports.

Anni's father, Vinod Hindocha, told the court yesterday the whole process related to the killing of his daughter was having a devastating impact on his family's health.

He further urged his son-in-law Shrien Dewani to voluntarily return to South Africa to face trial, and end his family's sufferings.

"I would say to Shrien, 'Give us the answers we need. You said you are not involved. Answer the questions to the South African authorities and let a court decide'," Hindocha said outside Belmarsh Magistrates' Court in London.

On being asked why his wife was not present in court, Hindocha said: "She started vomiting. She was in hospital last night and is pretty bad."

Dewani's extradition hearing has been adjourned till July 18.
