French experts to tackle Fukushima nuclear power plant crisis

March 29, 2011 - PARIS

A French nuclear fuel company will send two experts to Japan to help tackle the crisis at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, French Industry and Energy Minister Eric Besson has said.

Besson said that the experts from 'Areva SA' are being sent at the request of the plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co.

The Japanese request was for measures to deal with water contaminated by radioactive materials.

"France stands ready to send more experts in other fields and provide necessary support if requested by Japan," Kyodo news agency quoted Besson, as saying.

The nuclear power plant was severely damaged by the March 11 9.0-magnitude earthquake and ensuing tsunami.
