Conservatives blast sexist Newsweek description of GOP prez hopeful Michele Bachmann

August 10, 2011 - New York

Conservatives have expressed fury over the Newsweek magazine describing Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann as the "Queen of Rage" on its cover.

Bachmann appears on the latest issue with her eyes bulging, looking frozen like a deer in headlights.

The New York Daily News has quoted critics as accusing the magazine of sexism and liberal bias.

Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin blasted the magazine for resorting to "recycling bottom-of-the-barrel moonbat photo cliches about conservative female public figures and their enraged 'crazy eyes?' Really?" she wrote.

The president of the National Organization for Women, Terry O'Neill, told the right-leaning Daily Caller that "it's sexist" to "cast her in that expression."

"Exactly what were the editors thinking putting this kind of a picture of a sitting congresswoman and presidential candidate on their cover?" wrote Noel Sheppard on conservative site News Busters.

And Ed Morrissey of Hot Air sniped, "Memo to conservative women: When approached by Newsweek or Time for a cover story, always bring your own photographer."

Tea Party favourite Bachman told a voter during a stop in Atlantic, Iowa, on Monday, that she hadn't seen the cover when he asked her about it.

The magazine's editor in chief, Tina Brown, said in a statement, "Michele Bachmann's intensity is galvanizing voters in Iowa right now, and Newsweek's cover captures that."
