October 27, 2011 - Beijing

China has pledged to strengthen legislation to promote the nation's socialist democracy.

The country's recently issued White Paper said that it would improve legal institutions concerning election, self-government among people at the grassroots level and organization of state organs, Xinhua reports.

The White Paper titled 'The Socialist System of Laws with Chinese Characteristics' said that the decision is to "meet the requirements of actively yet steadily advancing political reform."

It said the nation would strengthen legislation regarding administrative procedures to regulate administrative actions, and improve laws concerning audit supervision and administrative reconsideration.

China is also planning to improve the legal system concerning the exercise of power by state organs and the punishment and prevention of corruption, in order to expand socialist democracy and standardize and supervise the exercise of power, the White Paper said.
