Cameron says Gaddafi should not be exiled, must face a war crime trial

March 29, 2011 - London

British Prime Minister David Cameron has said that Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi should face a war crime trial rather than being given the option of going into exile as is being suggested by Italy and Germany.

The Daily Mail quoted Downing Street officials as saying that Britain wants Gaddafi to stand trial at the International Criminal Court.

Cameron told lawmakers yesterday: "We are now in proper contact with the rebels. Foreign office officials are having contact with them."

At today's summit, Britain and France are expected to have to face down calls from other EU nations for a ceasefire.
