Brit student 'has tongue lengthened to speak Korean like natives'!

August 12, 2011 - London

A British student has undergone a surgery to increase the length of her tongue so that she can speak Korean language like a native.

Rhiannon Brooksbank-Jones, 19, who hopes to stay in Korea after university, found herself having some difficulties pronouncing some words.

Brooksbank-Jones' dentist admitted that as she had a shorter tongue than average, she could not make a distinctive L-sound that is needed for the right Korean accent.

Eventually she went under the knife where surgeons snipped part of the skin flap that attaches the tongue to the mouth, and thus extending it by a full centimetre further.

"Surgery was the only option. It's not like you can just stretch your tongue," the Sun quoted Brooksbank-Jones as saying.

"Some people might say it's a bit extreme but I'm a perfectionist. My pronunciation was very foreign before but now I can speak with a Korean accent," she added.
