Bill Clinton says Obama has over 50/50 chance of being re-elected president

December 22, 2011 - New York

Former US president Bill Clinton has said that incumbent President Barack Obama has a more than 50/50 chance of being re-elected as president in November 2012.

Clinton told the Fox News host: "I think they are a little better than that", when asked whether Obama's chances of occupying the White House were just about 50/50.

"Because his approval's up in the last few weeks, and because of this payroll tax where he is for it and it looks like the House may not be," Clinton said.

The 42nd president noted that Obama is currently "out there running against himself."

"As soon as he gets an opponent, it will be for the next four years. Who do you think is more likely to take us in the right direction?" he said.

After asking a few questions about Newt Gingrich - about whom Clinton said, "I don't disrespect anybody who works with me in good faith."

"No. I'm going to vote for Obama," Clinton said.
