On this occasion, The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is honored to extend their sincere gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, for their continuous support. Furthermore, the TRA offers their appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, for contributing to attaining the re-election of the UAE. Also, the TRA cordially extends their gratefulness to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for their consistent follow up.

Commenting on the announcement, Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimi, Minister of State, said: "We are very proud as a Government and people of what we have generally achieved on the international scene, and today in particular of the accolades received from this highly important International event. We also hope that this successful experience is a prelude to more distinctions and good fortune in the future. We know that it reflects the diligence of the TRA, under the administration of H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, in enhancing its capabilities, efficiency and human resources, to respond and interact constructively with the vital requirements of an ever changing communications field, not only at the local level and in relation to the internal needs of the UAE, but also on par with the highest international standards and global organizations that set the standards in the field."

H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General, said: "Winning the membership of the ITU Council for the second time in a row is a testament and clear evidence of the UAE leadership policy’s success which is seeking to strengthen the country's position in global forums and activating the role of UAE as an influential member in the international community. The recent period has witnessed extensive efforts undertaken by the Commission with several parties for the optimal setting to participate in the Plenipotentiary Conference (Guadalajara 2010). This stage has also seen significant cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the UAE candidature file in the membership of the Union Council, where the ministry made high level contacts to get the international support required."

"On behalf of the TRA, I am honored to thank the wise UAE leadership that has long provided us with support and encouragement. I would also like to thank all partners who have worked with us throughout the past period so that we can acquire this position, proving to the world the extent of progress achieved by the State in information technology and communications," added Al Ghanim.
