20 cases pending against Sharif brothers with NAB: PPP

Twenty cases against the Sharif brothers are pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab has revealed.

Karachi, Oct 13 : Twenty cases against the Sharif brothers are pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab has revealed.

Addressing a press conference at the PPP Sindh media cell, Fauzia further disclosed that cases pertaining to tax evasion were also pending against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, the Daily Times reported.

The PPP official added that the bureau was duty-bound to pursue all pending cases.

Observing that there were no political prisoners in the country, she said that the PPP believed in strengthening democratic values, and added that it was for the first time in the country's history that members of the ruling party had appeared in courts and pleaded for bail.

Fauzia claimed that the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, was criticising the appointment of the NAB chairman without any reason.

She lambasted him for boycotting the proceedings of the House over the approval of a bill for restoration of sacked employees, and also recalled that following the military coup on October 12, 1999, all PML-N leaders were detained in the Attock Jail, however, Khan had been put under house arrest, where he enjoyed various facilities.

Fauzia also disclosed that her party had decided to boycott a private satellite channel and an Urdu newspaper, and no PPP parliamentarian, office-bearer or activist would participate in any programme of that channel.

Sindh Assembly members Sharjeel Inam Memon, PPP Karachi President Najmi Alam and General Secretary Karachi Saeed Ghani were also present on the occasion.
