Hamid Karzai calls reports of him being manic depressive rather funny

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has denied a report that he is manic depressive, describing it as rather funny.

London, Oct 11 : Afghan President Hamid Karzai has denied a report that he is manic depressive, describing it as "rather funny".

Former Watergate investigator and noted journalist Bob Woodward had said in his book that Afghan President Hamid Karzai takes medication for his manic depression.

The book "Obama's Wars" cites American intelligence reports as saying that Karzai has been diagnosed as a manic depressive.

"He's on his meds, he's off his meds," Karl Eikenberry, the US ambassador to Afghanistan, is quoted as saying in Woodward's book. Oh definitely not. Rather funny," Karzai said when asked by CNN's Larry King about the allegations in a new book.

In the interview with King, which airs today in America, Karzai insisted that he only takes vitamins, headache pills and occasional Antibiotics, The Telegraph reports.

"The only medication that I have taken, is an antibiotic called Augmentin, the strongest ones I have taken when I had a bad cold two years ago," he said according to the CNN transcript of excerpts from the interview.

"And I from time to time take multivitamins and vitamin C and of course a popular medicine in the US, Tylenol is something I use from time to time when I have a headache or when I'm tired," Karzai said.
