Armed gunmen storm Lahores FIA building, take several hostage

Less than week after terrorists stormed the Pakistan Armys General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, armed gunmen raided the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) building in Lahore on Thursday morning.

Lahore, Oct.15 : Less than week after terrorists stormed the Pakistan Army's General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, armed gunmen raided the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) building in Lahore on Thursday morning.

Television reports said five to six gunmen attacked the FIA building, which is situated on Temple Road, and took several officials hostage.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot soon after reports of the attack on the FIA building surfaced, which houses several other government and private offices.

Initially,no report of casualty was received. Punjab Home Secretary Khusro Pervaiz Khan claimed that security forces had killed two terrorists.

There were also reports of firing near the Elite Police Centre.

This was the second terror attack on the FIA building in the last year and a half.

Then,at least 24 people, including 13 FIA officials were killed and over 200 were injured when two bombs ripped through the FIA building and an another building in March 2008

That deadly blast demolished much of the federal police headquarters, which is located in the heart Lahore, while the other hit an advertising office located several kilometers away.

Around 800 people have died since last year in suicide attacks, roadside bombings and clashes, mainly along the Afghan border in troubled northwestern Pakistan and in other major cities.

Many of the attacks have targeted the armed forces, police and security forces.
