Teknovus Announces True Burst Mode Symmetric 10G-EPON Solution and Presents 10G-EPON Keynote at Optinet China Conference 2009

Teknovus, the leading provider of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (G-EPON) chipsets for deployment of triple-play residential and business services in broadband access networks, announced the availability of true burst mode symmetric 10G-EPON, with multiple ONUs (Optical Network Units) sharing a 10G upstream link to an OLT (Optical Line Terminal). The open demonstration is being held during the Optinet China Conference on June 3^rd and June 4^th in Beijing. In addition, Dr. Glen Kramer, Teknovus Chief Scientist, will deliver the industry keynote on 10G-EPON.

Teknovus’ 10G-EPON platforms are being adopted by tier 1 service providers and equipment vendors throughout Asia and North America. Fully compliant with the soon-to-be ratified IEEE 802.3av 10G-EPON standard, Teknovus’ symmetric 10G-EPON solution supports triple-lambda wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) for simultaneous downstream operation at 1.25Gb/s, 2.5Gb/s and 10Gb/s. The system also supports dual rate burst mode, enabling simultaneous operation of ONUs at both 1.25Gb/s and 10Gb/s in the upstream. Teknovus has selected Vitesse as its SerDes partner; Vitesse offers the industry’s first 10G burst mode chip.

China ended 2008 with more than 8 million EPON subscribers and expects to reach 60 million subscribers by 2011.
