Sarkozy threatened by lothario French politician over sex smear campaign

Nicolas Sarkozy was reportedly threatened by the head of the International Monetary Fund who alleged that the French Presidents men were out to discredit him as a potential rival in the next presidential election with a dirty tricks campaign.

London, December 6 : Nicolas Sarkozy was reportedly threatened by the head of the International Monetary Fund who alleged that the French President's men were out to discredit him as a potential rival in the next presidential election with a dirty tricks campaign.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn, a French Socialist politician, was said to have met Sarkozy during a G20 summit in Pittsburgh and confronted him over expanding reports about his alleged extramarital affairs.

Strauss-Kahn, who heads the IMF in Washington, was said to have told Sarkozy that he was done with gossip about his private life and talk of photographs of him with women that could be used to smear him in an election campaign, reports Times Online.

According to Le Point magazine, the 60-year-old former Socialist finance minister apparently told Sarkozy: "I know that all of it comes from the Elysie. Tell your boys to stop it or I'll go to court."

Confronted in the lavatory, the French President purportedly denied any knowledge of a "stop Strauss-Kahn" campaign.
