Nepal Constituent Assembly to discuss budget

According to Kantipur, the lawmakers of different political parties will forward their views on the fiscal year's budget at the meeting today.

On Sunday, at the Constituent Assembly meet, the alliance party members had showed dissatisfaction over the budget.

Similarly, the opposition lawmakers remarked the budget to be out of direction and bizarre.

CPN (UML) lawmaker Shankar Pokharel said the budget has tried to tackle the challenges facing the country's economy. The implementation of the programmes outlined in the budget would be an uphill task.

Commenting on the budget, senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel said the budget as unrealistic and accused the government of allocating budget on programmes that would benefit the cadres of certain ruling parties rather than the people in general. He also warned that the budget could give rise to inflation.

Tilak Rawal, a Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) lawmaker and former governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, described the budget as 'inflated and ambitious'.

The debate on the budget will continue until September 25 when Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai will answer the questions raised by the lawmakers.
