Nawaz asks Zardari to respect PML-Ns mandate in Punjab

Fearing a strong action, including dissolution of Punjab Assembly after the September 6 Presidential poll, PML-N leader and former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has said that the PPP should respect the PML-Ns mandate in Punjab the way the PML-N respected the PPPs mandate at the Centre.

Lahore, Sept 2 : Fearing a strong action, including dissolution of Punjab Assembly after the September 6 Presidential poll, PML-N leader and former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has said that the PPP should respect the PML-N's mandate in Punjab the way the PML-N respected the PPP's mandate at the Centre.

He said the PML-N would play a "constructive role" in the Parliament and would also support the PPP-led government in all its "positive endeavours".

Pakistan could not afford another round of political confrontation and urged political parties to act responsibly, the Daily Times quoted him as saying while speaking to a group of foreign reporters.

He said he did not want to recall the memories of differences among political parties in the past.

He also said the ongoing political crisis, after his party's withdrawal of support from the PPP-led government, was likely to persist if the sacked judges were not restored.

Pakistan needed to evolve a national policy to combat terrorism and extremism, he said and added: "The PML-N has time and again said that the issue of terrorism and extremism should be discussed in the parliament as the country direly needs a national policy on the issue."
