Pak judges bodys decision on restoration of judges likely today

The judges committee set up in Pakistan to devise a framework for the restoration of the judges sacked on November 3, is expected to resolve the issue in its meeting today, Pakistan Law Minister Farooq H Naek has said.

Islamabad, May 7 : The judges' committee set up in Pakistan to devise a framework for the restoration of the judges sacked on November 3, is expected to resolve the issue in its meeting today, Pakistan Law Minister Farooq H Naek has said.

This would be the third round of talks of the committee.

According to Murree Declaration, the judges had to be restored before April 30, but the date was extended to May 12 because the two parties could not agree on a framework.

Claiming of a breakthrough in the talks, Naek said that said the committee had made significant progress on the issue.

"We are heading towards success. We hope all the issues would be resolved in tomorrow's (Wednesday's) meeting," the Daily Times quoted Naek as saying.

He said that the crucial meeting would be held at Punjab House in the evening at 7pm.

He said the committee held detailed deliberations on host of issues including the much talked about resolution on Tuesday. Asked if the judges would be restored by a parliamentary resolution or a constitutional package, the Law minister said the matter was being discussed, and that "you will have to wait until tomorrow."

Asked if the incumbent judges would continue to serve after the restoration of the sacked ones, Naek said an announcement would be made in this regard after Wednesday's meeting.
