UML might join govt under certain conditions: UML leader KP Oli

Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) leader KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday said that the behavior and activities of CPN-Maoist and its cadres will determine the UML decision on whether or not to be part of the next government.

Kathmandu, May 6 : Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) leader KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday said that the behavior and activities of CPN-Maoist and its cadres will determine the UML decision on whether or not to be part of the next government.

He was speaking at a press conference organised in Kathmandu today to inform about the injuries sustained by head of UML Bhojpur chapter Ram Singh Rai, Oli said that UML might join the next government if Maoists implement the past commitments and agreements between the two parties.

"Implementation of past commitments, favourable environment for co-ordination between the parties, reliable commitment on the future course of action (of Maoists) and assurance of exercising democratic behaviour will be required from the Maoists for UML to be part of the next government," Kantipur quoted Oli, as saying.

However, Oli said that there will be co-ordination among the parties while drafting a new constitution even if the UML decides not to be a part of the next government.

During the conference, UML leaders from Koshi Zone and Bhojpur district demanded action against the perpetrators responsible for the attacks on Rai and other UML activists.

They have also demanded arrangement for treatment of Rai, who is undergoing treatment at Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj in the capital.

Young Communist League cadres reportedly attacked and injured 17 UML activists including Ram Singh Rai last Tuesday.
