LDR Launches verteBRIDGE(TM) Anchoring Technology for Spinal Applications

Austin, Texas, United States

LDR, a total spine solution company, introduced its verteBRIDGE(TM) anchoring technology, which features innovative, zero-profile, self-locking anchoring plates designed for initial and long-term stability. The technology will be incorporated into LDR's new stand-alone partial vertebral body replacement devices.

The surgical technique employs a minimally invasive direct anterior approach, which allows insertion of the curved anchoring plates along the sagittal plane thus requiring no additional exposure of the vertebral bodies.

Christophe Lavigne, CEO of LDR, comments, "The verteBRIDGE(TM) technology platform is a very exciting and innovative achievement for LDR. The technology provides a unique solution to some of the challenges faced by spine surgeons today. We believe our verteBRIDGE(TM) anchoring technology has advantages over screw-based systems and will provide surgeons with a reliable and reproducible solution."

The technology was designed by a global team of surgeons that includes Prof. Jerome Allain and Dr. Jean Lombard of France, and Drs. Charles Gordon, Michael Hisey, Vincent Leone, Pierce Nunley, and Jeffrey Phelps of the United States.

Dr. Pierce Nunley, of the Spine Institute of Louisiana in Shreveport, Louisiana, says "The direct anterior technique using the curved anchoring plates provides minimal exposure to the vertebral bodies and easy insertion and placement of the implant and anchoring plates. With only 2 instruments and 2 steps for insertion of the device, my time in the operating room is reduced and optimized."

Dr. Jeffrey Phelps, of the Orthopedic Spine Institute in Ft. Worth, Texas, comments "The instrumentation is simple, easy to use, and is designed to protect vascular structures during placement of the anchoring plates. In addition, the zero-profile implant design assures that there is no hardware protruding anterior of the vertebral bodies, a real benefit for single or multi-level indications."

Professor Jerome Allain with the University hospital of Henri Mondor in Paris, adds, "The real benefit of this innovative technology is the ease with which I can perform the procedure with minimal exposure and a direct anterior approach."

LDR works closely with surgeons to develop implantable spine systems and instrumentation that restore optimum stability and mobility to patients and to make spine surgery more reproducible and easier to perform.
