Prachanda confers with Koirala on technicalities of first CA meeting in Nepal

Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) chairman Prachanda met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and discussed the procedural aspects of the first sitting of the Constituent Assembly (CA), which will implement republic by abolishing monarchy in Nepal.

Kathmandu, may 5 : Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) chairman Prachanda met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and discussed the procedural aspects of the first sitting of the Constituent Assembly (CA), which will implement republic by abolishing monarchy in Nepal.

They also discussed about organasing a meeting of the seven-party alliance to forge consensus on the composition of a new government.

According to the Nepalnews.com the meeting comes in the wake of growing differences between the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Maoists over the leadership of the next government.

While Koirala has called for initiatives to form a new government, some NC leaders have suggested him not to step down, as the Maoists need to show two-thirds majority on their side to take the government's leadership.

Prachanda, accompanied by another senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai, also expressed commitment to provide Koirala, a 'respectable' role in future.

"The NC leaders didn't formally propose any position for Koirala," Dr Bhattarai said.We are still consulting with other political parties on the type of respectful position through which Koirala can exercise political and moral authority," he said.

He further added that said all political parties can form a high-level mechanism to guide the government and Koirala can work as its head. "It is just an alternative but we are open to more discussion and are not rigid. But there should not two power centers in future," he said.
