Musharraf wants a PPP-friendly person to head PML-Q

In order to forge a more friendly relationship with the PPP, the biggest political party in the ruling coalition, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is learnt to be planning to bring about a change in the top leadership of the erstwhile ruling party - the PML-Q.

Lahore, May 5 : In order to forge a more friendly relationship with the PPP, the biggest political party in the ruling coalition, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is learnt to be planning to bring about a change in the top leadership of the erstwhile ruling party - the PML-Q.

He is reportedly pressing the PML-Q's top leadership to step down and wants a person to head it who enjoys warm relations with the PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The "romance" between Musharraf and the Q-league appeared to be heading towards its logical end, and the President was trying to get rid of his loyal political comrades, Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi, the Daily Times quoted a Dawn News TV report as saying.

"President Musharraf wants a person to head the Q-league who enjoys warm relations with PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari," said the report.

Reacting to Musharaf's plans, senior PML-Q leader Riaz Pirzada said that Musharraf would "weaken himself" if he interfered in the affairs of the PML-Q. The party would be damaged if its leadership were changed, he added.
