Discontent in Nepal political parties over PR list

Discords seems to have appeared in most big Nepalese parties over the list of candidates they submitted under the proportional representation (PR) category as the Constituent Assembly (CA) members.

Kathmandu, May 4 : Discords seems to have appeared in most big Nepalese parties over the list of candidates they submitted under the proportional representation (PR) category as the Constituent Assembly (CA) members.

Such discords have appeared within Maoists, Nepali Congress (NC), Unified Marxist Leninist (UML), Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), among others, according to Nepal Samacharpatra daily.

The cadres of Maoists in Jhapa district vandalised their own party office in Charali after the name of local candidate Chandra Lal Meche went missing in the final list submitted by the party to the Election Commission (EC).

In Nepali Congress, a candidate in the list from far west Haripriya Bhandari has resigned from all party positions expressing dissatisfaction over the process of selection. Similar discontents have been expressed by numerous Congress leaders, including some central working committee members like Bal Bahadur Rai.

In UML, the discontent was exposed when valley joint in charge Krishna Gopal Shrestha resigned from his position. On Saturday, UML cadres in Baglung resorted to vandalism after no one from the district was included in its final list.

The MJF is also facing discord. Its workers in Inaruwa have charged coordinator Upendra Yadav of partiality in selecting candidates. Likewise, its workers in Morang, Sunsari and Bank have also protested, nepalnews.com reported.
