Pak law minister says restoration of judges may occur after May 12

Pakistan Law Minister Farooq Naek has said that the judges sacked on November 3, 2007 may not necessarily be restored before May 12.

Lahore, May 3 : Pakistan Law Minister Farooq Naek has said that the judges sacked on November 3, 2007 may not necessarily be restored before May 12.

"The new committee formed by the coalition would decide whether an executive order or new legislation would follow the National Assembly resolution to restore the judges," the Daily Times quoted Naek as saying.

"The committee would forward the matter to Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Nawaz Sharif if it did not reach a decision by May 12," he added.

The sources quoted him as saying that the PPP believed in independence of judiciary and would not curtail its powers.

Naek also denied that the chief justice of Pakistan would be barred from hearing certain cases including any dealing with National Reconciliation Ordinance.
