Prince William wants to fly air sea rescue helicopters

British royal Prince William has applied to fly air sea rescue helicopters with the Royal Air Force (RAF).

London, May 3 : British royal Prince William has applied to fly air sea rescue helicopters with the Royal Air Force (RAF).

The second-in-line to the throne has put in his request to join the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre, based at RAF Kinloss in Scotland.

If it's accepted, then 25-year-old William could soon be flying Sea King helicopters to assist ships in distress or people lost at sea, and he could also go on Nimrod patrols and join rescue teams in the Highlands.

Royal protection sources say that William, frustrated by his inability to take part in combat since he is the future King of the UK, is now determined to do his bit for his country by flying rescue missions.

"There are still major concerns because rescue situations can be very dangerous. But His Royal Highness doesn't want to be wrapped in cotton wool," The Sun quoted a source, as saying.

"He sees air rescue as the perfect opportunity to prove his mettle and serve his country," the source added.

William earned his RAF wings last month.
