Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Saturday lauded the effort of the media in playing a significant role in laying foundation for democracy in the country.

Kathmandu, May 3 : Nepalese Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Saturday lauded the effort of the media in playing a significant role in laying foundation for democracy in the country.

PM Koirala called on the journalists to move ahead more responsibly in the future as press will have further important role in the making of the constitution.

"It is the role of press to coordinate among the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary," Kantipur quoted Koirala, as saying at an inaugural function of the 22nd General Assembly of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) at Birendra International Convention Center in Baneshwor today.

The PM further claimed to fully support and assist press during his leadership.

Speaker Subash Nembang also expressed his hope that the journalists will exhibit an important role in drafting new constitution.

Minister for Information and Communications Krishna Bahadur Mahara assured to enforce law concerning to working journalists and right to information.
