Thief returns to his cushy jail cell!

Not many would think of a jail as an ideal place to spend ones time in, let alone a lifetime. But, 42-year-old Wesley Crawford is a different cup of tea altogther.

London, May 13 : Not many would think of a jail as an ideal place to spend one's time in, let alone a lifetime. But, 42-year-old Wesley Crawford is a different cup of tea altogther.

Crawford escaped from his open jail, but returned three days later and begged the staff to take him back.

"It's much more cushy in prison," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

A jail source said: "We couldn't believe it. To come knocking on the door and asking to be taken back in is amazing. He basically said that it was much more cushy being inside prison than it was on the outside. And, he still believes that - even though he has now been sent to a closed prison."

The incident follows mounting criticism that Britain's jails are now so comfy that lags are reluctant to escape.

Crawford was sentenced to 12 years for robbery at Stafford Crown Court in July, 2001.

A the Sudbury open prison, Derbyshire, he had three meals a day with a choice of menus, plus a TV in his room which was never locked. There is snooker, table tennis and a gym.
