Musharraf to convene Pakistan parliament within 10 days

Pledging his full support to the new government in Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf on Friday said that he would convene the new parliament in the country within ten days.

Karachi, Mar 7 : Pledging his full support to the new government in Pakistan, President Pervez Musharraf on Friday said that he would convene the new parliament in the country within ten days.

During an inaugural function, Musharraf said the international community has recognised his pledge to hold free and fair elections.

"The national and provincial assemblies sessions will be called in a week or one and half weeks. There will be no hurdle to this," a Pakistan television quoted Musharraf, as saying.

"I promise if peace is maintained, I will fully support the new coalition governments," he added.

Musharraf also pointed out that moderate forces had emerged victorious in the February 18 elections, the Dawn reported.

Asif Ali Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Nawaz Sharif-led Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) are demanding immediate convening of the parliament and four provincial assemblies.
