Aitzaz Ahsan criticises US, Britain for supporting Musharraf

Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday criticised the US and Britain for supporting President Pervez Musharraf.

Rawalpindi, Mar 6 : Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday criticised the US and Britain for supporting President Pervez Musharraf.

He urged the government of both the countries to end their support to Musharraf.

Addressing a rally of around 500 lawyers in Rawalpindi, he accused the US and Britain of "condoning" the detention of deposed Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Chaudhry was ousted by Musharraf in November under the state of emergency.

"You people (the US and Britain) are fighting a 'war on terror' and should therefore know that the most effective weapon in such a war is empowered people with enforceable rights," the Dawn quoted Ahsan, as saying.
