Pakistan approves import of maize, CNG buses from India

Pakistan federal cabinets Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) has reportedly approved the import of maize and CNG buses from India.

Islamabad, Mar 5 : Pakistan federal cabinet's Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) has reportedly approved the import of maize and CNG buses from India.

The decisions were taken after assessing summaries moved by Pakistan Ministry of Information Technology and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Daily Times quoted a copy of an ECC document as saying.

According to the paper, the Pakistan industry was facing difficulty in adjusting to the rising prices of poultry feed due to a shortage of maize, and the decision to import maize from India was taken to stabilise feed prices.

The Council allowed import of maize from India at zero-rated Customs duty, said the document.

The council also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Board of Revenue and the Ministry of Commerce to address the problem of congestion at the Wagah border post. It also directed that alternative routes be probed for trade with India.
