Malay Indians needs more executive council representation, says their leader

Malay Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Sami Vellu has said that the appointment of a single Indian executive council member in Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor is insufficient to cater to the needs of the community.

Kuala Lumpur, Mar.31 : Malay Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Sami Vellu has said that the appointment of a single Indian executive council member in Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor is insufficient to cater to the needs of the community.

"The Indian exco members will not be able to contribute effectively to the community, especially with the Barisan Nasional ruling the Federal Government," The Star quoted him, as saying.

Samy Vellu said this was not what the opposition parties promised before the elections.

To a question on why the MIC was not allocated an executive councillor's post in Pahang, Samy Vellu said a request had been made to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.

"I am not prepared to beg anymore. Enough of begging for that and this," he said.

To another question, he said he would be going to the ground next month to explain his decision to work with former party deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam.

Vellu said the Government must provide assistance in the economic upliftment and equity enlargement of the community.
