Pak will experience water shortage by September, warn officials

People in Pakistan will experience water shortage and water supply problems by September this year, as the countrys dams only have sufficient water till that time, claimed Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) officials.

Islamabad, Mar.30 : People in Pakistan will experience water shortage and water supply problems by September this year, as the country's dams only have sufficient water till that time, claimed Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) officials.

A WASA spokesman told The News that heavy power load shedding in the country was the prime factor for poor water supply, and added that in Rawalpindi alone, the WASA has been forced to install generators in the Sangjani and Rawal Lake reservoirs to ensure smooth water supply to houses.

However, the operation of more than 200 tube wells, another source of supplying water, is affected largely due to power suspensions.

There is sufficient water in the Rawal and Khanpur Dams for another six months, he said.
