Pakistan Peoples Party could work with Musharraf: Mukhtar

Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar of the Pakistan Peoples Party one of the candidates for prime ministership has stated that his party is willing to work with President Pervez Musharraf if chosen to form a Government.

Lahore, March 2 : Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar of the Pakistan Peoples Party one of the candidates for prime ministership has stated that his party is willing to work with President Pervez Musharraf if chosen to form a Government.

He said that when a country is passing through a phase of crisis efforts should be made to create an accord among all people, including the President.

"One must be able to work with everyone, be it a political party or the President," the Dawn quoted Mukhtar, as saying.

When pointed out that his views are totally different from the party policy, he said that even Benazir Bhutto had hinted that the PPP could have a working relationship with President Musharraf. Asif Zardari also had the same opinion. He said: "If we say we'll not work with him (President Musharraf), the PPP will not be able to form Government. This means there will be a stalemate from the word 'go'."

Chaudhary Mukhtar is a former Commerce Minister and he defeated Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid's (PML-Q) president Chaudhry Shujaat Husain in the elections in Gujrat.

Mukhtar added that stalemate would not be in the interest of the country and it would also affect the flow of foreign investment.

While answering a question on the reinstatement of deposed Supreme Court judges, he said the matter would be decided by the Parliament.

The matter would go to house committees in which all parties would have a representation, and no party could challenge a decision taken by the committees. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would not have anything against the proposed procedure to resolve the post-November 3 crisis.

He said the decisions given by courts in such situations in the past had been supported by parliaments and the situation would be same this time too.
