Karachi, Mar 27 : US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte today said that there was no hidden agenda in the timing of his visit to Pakistan, and expressed the hope that partnership between the US and Pakistan will remain "strong".
Giving a news briefing here, he reaffirmed continuous US supports to the new democratic set up in Pakistan.
Negroponte said that he has "no desire to interfere or intervene in any way in political arrangements which are developing" in Pakistan.
The Pakistani media decried his visit as American "meddling" and said it was ill timed.
Earlier in Islamabad, Negroponte said Washington will respect whatever is decided about President Pervez Musharraf's status through the Pakistani political process.
Asked at a news conference if he was in Pakistan to rescue Musharraf, Negroponte said the President's future status depended on the country's political process and the US will "certainly respect whatever is decided in that regard."
ANI
