The family of Pakistani national Khalid Mehmood who died in an Indian jail last month, has demanded of the new government that it should first ensure registration of an FIR against the Indian jail authorities under whose custody he died, before exonerating Indian national Sarabjit Singh of terror charges and hand over him to India.
Lahore, Mar 27 : The family of Pakistani national Khalid Mehmood who died in an Indian jail last month, has demanded of the new government that it should first ensure registration of an FIR against the Indian jail authorities under whose custody he died, before exonerating Indian national Sarabjit Singh of terror charges and hand over him to India.
Mehmood's family members warned the new government of "severe consequences" if it tried to exonerate Sarabjit Singh without addressing their grievances first.
The deceased's brother Fattah Muhammad Siddique said that his family was not against Sarabjit's release, but argued that the Pakistan government should get 200-300 Pakistani prisoners released from different Indian jails before deciding to exonerate Sarabjit.
He said that Khalid Mehmood's entire family would storm the Wahga Border if the government handed over Sarabjit to India as they did in Kashmir Singh's case.
He lambasted the government for not yet approaching New Delhi for registering an FIR against the Indian officials under whose custody he died.
He also demanded of the government to seek assistance of International Court of Justice in this case so that the mystery of Mehmood's death could be unearthed without any delay, as reported by The News.
Khalid Mehmood's mother Kareeman Bibi also appealed to the new government that her family should be provided with justice. She claimed that she had met her son in the Indian Jail in 2006 and that his condition was not stable as he was severely tortured by the Indian police officials.
